If asked to any common man, which is the best means of mobility that one can travel from chennai to Bangalore or other places of similar distance, he would say take the road. By the turning wheel of technical development every common man should be able to say u can fly to your destination. so looking forth to this scenario, SAE India the southern division has taken steps to motivate young engineers to take part in the race of growing air mobility inventions and innovations. SAEISS on the 8th of September, under the guidance of a spectacular aeromodeler Sir Radha Kamallakharan conducted an aeromodeling training contest and training.

Sir Radha Kamallakharan who has an aeromodeling experience of 50 years. His main aim was to impart his passion to the engineers from colleges all over the southern sector who gathered at college of engineering, Guindy, Chennai. He spoke about his experiences which included a video demonstration of a glider that used OS 91 4 stroke engine, and also his achievement of being credited as the best modeler at IDEX 2002 UAE.

Later he spoke on the basic designs like wing span, flying space, nose weight and also mentioned a few points on RC gliders.

In the later session, the candidates were given kits that contained parts to make a basic glider, Mr. Kamallakharan went through all the teams and gave some tips guidance on the constructions. All the candidates gathered were very enthusiastic and committed to the art. Later a competition over the best flier was held in an open field. The demonstrations included many smooth, straight and long flight and most of the covered nearly 40 feets, with hardly any initial power.
