SRM Engineering College,
SRM University
4th October 2006,
Students
of our college participate in a numerous Intra-College as well
Inter-College contests. Right since the establishment of SAE Club in SRM
Engineering College, there always have been overwhelming responses from
the students. Students not only have participated in various contests
within and outside college but also have created news.
The SAE Collegiate Club of SRM University conducted an Intra- School Toy
Car Fabrication contest on the 4th of October. This contest was
conducted as a part of our drive to bring in enthusiasm among the new
entrants of SAE and also to motivate them. It was open to the second
year students of Mechanical Engineering streams.
The fabricated cars were subjected to a road test on a ramp specially
designed .Each car had to climb down an inclination of 30°, subsequently
pass two bumpers of 1.5 cms height and then climb a ramp of varying
inclination ranging from 15° to 50°. This road test of the fabricated
vehicles served the purpose of testing the conceptual, practical and the
intellectual capabilities of the students when it comes to finding
solutions to real life problems. To judge this event, we had Mr.
Shanmugham, Treasurer, SAE Southern Section, Mr. R. Rajendran, Students'
Board Vice- Chair, SAE Southern section and Prof. L.R. Ganapathy
Subramanian, School of Mechanical Engineering, SRM Engineering College.
A fun filled contest that saw not many cars climbing the ramp, until
Satya Prakash Gautam and his teammates broke the ice with their car
climbing up to 40°. Sonal and his teammates' car created a record among
all the competitors by climbing the ramp of inclination up to
50°. Synchronization of four motors on

4th
October remained a memorable day in the hearts of many SAE members; a
day filled with fun, enjoyment and of course disappointment too, for a
few teams. In all, it was an enlightened day which made us prove that
SAE is truly a student's body that strives to enhance the knowledge base
of its members.

Apart from this Intra School Competition, Wheelspin'06, SRM's SAE
Collegiate Club had also participated in the recent SAE Students'
Convention held in Crescent Engineering College on the 18th of
September. This Students' convention was presided over by SAE
International President, Mr. Greg Henderson. Among the
dignitaries who graced

This
day, the 18th of September turned out to be a historical day for our SAE
Collegiate Club,
as we won the Best Innovation Award. Each Collegiate
Club from the South Zone was asked to present their past activities and
also propose an
INNOVATIVE IDEA that could remain as the driving source for their future
programes.
